Help with batrep graphics please!

Hey everyone, I'm interested in creating some old style picture and text battle reports. There's something about this style that I still really love (probably nostalgia) and I think it would work really well with dropfleet. The problem is that I totally suck at graphic design. I tried taking the pics from the excellent summary sheets (which my friend laminated for me and they are invaluable in a game) but they just look all squished up and messy.

Is anyone able to help with this please?
