How would you spice up force orgs?

PostThu Jul 06, 2017 1:55 pm

Sooo outta boredom... for those of us who crave a 2nd edition (Revised FM rules, clarified CQB/Terrain/etc.etc.) or just some more army list options...

How would people try to build out alternative force organizations for armies... For example wouldn't it be neat if you could play a UCM Support Division, that gives lets you use Support options in greater numbers or instead of Standard choices...

But maybe you pay for that by being limited to 4 or 5 BG, and some sort of point cost?

Just interested in what people's ideas might be.

Troop or Scout choice (must be infantry) in Air battlegroup. It automatically becomes a forward air controller.

Ability to utilize special commanders in normal games, perhaps without their command cards? I just don't see them getting much use otherwise.

Interesting one. I would decrease battlegroup with one on each level so that 1500 points would have 5bg. I would put a fm slot in the infantry bg and remove the fm totally.

I think it would make the game slightly faster.

Tbh, I think the fast mover/infantry idea is good. But I'm not so sure about slapping in into the infantry battle group. Or at least not resistance, which generally have very expensive Infantry battle groups. Maybe just attach them to any battle group?

But this could might make certain BG's op that I am not thinking about.

I've always been a fan of the idea of having a troop or scout squad in the FM groups. It solves a lot of problems regarding dead activations when the FM isn't in yet.

Here's what I'd propose:
add a troop slot and a scout slot to FM battlegroups. Max squads remain the same. The troop or scout in this battlegroup is the Forward Air Controller. This way you have a choice between multiple squads of FM which may not come in reliably (as it is now), or 1 FAC squad and 1 FM squad that is more reliable.

I like the idea of dropping 1 BG. List building would get trickier.

Another idea geared towards FMs, drop the FM category and reassign FMs. Many would be support, but some would be heavy. I can see a case foe exotic and possibly scout as well. Also, interesting possibilities for the future.

Making FMs support is not good. There are so many things I want in my support slots with UCM, they'd see very little table time.
