What about tables with a lack of terrain, for more variation? I do agree the urban tables get very samey, players really need to make more use of scatter terrain to break up the open streets and really make those dropships work. At the same time, I think one of the reasons why ground units have such artificially low movement stats is because the designers don't play with much scatter terrain to break things up.

But, to keep things interesting, eventually armies might need to cross more open areas, such as places with rolling hills broken up by smaller areas.

The current rules don't support this as well, but while I played I used rules like Clear Terrain, where if you're playing in a non urban area, a roll of 2 on the At the Deck roll only results in 1 damage. This allows players to use 2-3" tall terrain to block LoS to dropships and flyers, instead of needing a bunch of 6+" terrain all the time.

It does work rather well, it mixes up the meta quite a bit ^_^
