Hellhog and transition...

PostWed Apr 13, 2016 8:34 am

I'm trying to work my head around the Hellhog and its transition rule... Some thoughts I have is this.

Can it fly on, stop and shoot with a ac of 2+?
Can it fly on, stop and then pivot?
Can it shoot and then fly off?
Can it pivot, shoot and then fly off?

Cheers!

"Can it fly on, stop and shoot with a ac of 2+?" Yes
"Can it fly on, stop and then pivot?" I expect so
"Can it shoot and then fly off?" Yes
"Can it pivot, shoot and then fly off?" Gut instinct says yes, but the pivot and flying off would count as two separate movements...maybe? Shoot-pivot-fly off sounds fine, but pivot-shoot-fly off I am not sure about.

If anyone more informed disagrees then I will need to have a chat with my local resistance player.

Yeah, of course is the pivot and fly off a movement so no shooting in between that. :P

The pivot is a separate movement. (I think i remember reading that) So the hellhog must keep the facing it has once it comes on. That's the only way I can predictably counter this thing. Bait it into a lane so he has limited targets. Once he transitions the next turn he can move like a normal aircraft. And if he wants to fly off he must fly in the direction he activates. That instant he pivots, no transition.

That's how I play it at least. The dang thing is way too strong otherwise

That makes perfect sense given the rules. If the unit is acting as an aircraft on the table, then it is not transitioning to or from Fast Mover mode that turn.

A pivot is normal movement.

Fast Movers can only go in a straight line and remember that they have to declare what altitude level they will fly at. Fast movers do not pivot.

Also note that if you pivot, you're moving which means you can't fire then move some more afterwards.

If I understand the rules you could

Activate hellhog last in turn x. Transition at firing position. Fire according to the aircraft mode rules.

Turn x+1. Activate hellhog, choose to first fire, then move. Fire according to aircraft rules. Transition to fast mover and exit the battlefield.

If you choose to pivot you need to complete all movement before firing, thus forsaking your chance to escape. That is at least my understanding
