Longbow smoke question

PostSat Jul 23, 2016 1:44 pm

I'm finally starting to get some games in and started rewatching some old video's on Beasts of War.
In the videon on longbows Warren asks how hard it is for longbows to hit a target with smart smoke.
The answhere he gets is:'it's almost automatically'.

After reading the rulebook, I can't find anything that would indicate that they shouldn't make a normal to hit roll.
2+ with a +2 modifier as long as no scout draw line of sight to your target, even when firing on your own unit.

Am I missing something?

A 2+ is almost a automatic hit. ;) So no, you are not missing anything. :)

Yeah, but using indirect fire I would need a +2 for a 4+...
Hardly almost automatic.

It was explained on teh forum somewhere that the +2 for IDF didnt apply to smartsmoke against your own troops
Razorworms are just Mother Natures way of reminding you why it is important to man the walls.

Ferrums are the UCM's way of reminding you to take enough AA

It's quite simple. You need something to spot for Indirect Fire. If that spotting unit is not a Scout then the shot gets +2 Accuracy penalty. These are the normal rules of the game and there is nothing overriding them for Longbows.

Of course, artillery can fire normally without using IF if they can draw LOS to their target.

So if you want to smoke your own units using Indirect Fire then it is a good idea to have some scouts get LOS to your desired target.

Note that you use Free Range for smart smoke on your own units as per the Longbow's special rules, which is infinite range.
