RXp-44 (WARNING IMAGE HEAVY)

PostFri Jun 23, 2017 7:47 pm

For various reasons I'm trying to learn SketchUp and for my 2nd project I chose to model the RXp-44.
The idea is to model it, print it and then paint it.

So lets start with the reference image

Reference in SketchUp

Next trace the outlines

And presto a 3D image

First round of details added. I was planning on taking more screenshots but simply forgot when I was busy.
looking to the picture of the siren holding the RXp I noticed that the targeting "Laser" was based in a round form on the pistol so that needed to be changed.
Image

Second round of details.
The round and curved areas of the handle was a bit trying and googling how to.
first I tried the standard follow me tool which gave me a workable piece after a lot of trial and error. but it was still meh. So after some googling I found the awsome Curviloft plugin which mad it far easier and nicer looking.

Top view

RXp-44 etched in. It's not a 100% match the font should be a bit more slanted but this one is the closest I had.
Currently it's only on one side of the pistol. Should it be added to the other?

A closer look

Cut to pieces. this should make it easier to print.

Stil cut but placed together and resized to what should be true scale. I was working with magnification of 100x.

Things still to do
- a shell "expel hole".
- making the clip more separate from the handle.
- possibly remove the "trigger" button from 1 side.
- possibly do the rough texture on the handle don't know how yet to do it in sketchup. As it doesn't like push/pulling on curved surfaces.

* stupid copy paste errors
** Stupid photobucket charging $40 to link your images to forums

So finally did a bit more. Also as I'm now in a kickstarter for a 3D printer with a print bed of 12x12cm I cut it into smaller pieces.

Looks very cool!

Of course, you'll need two to be a proper SIREN corps member. ;)

Should be enough to get a wig and to react aggressively when people assume your gender. :D

Great project though.

Looking forward to some pictures
(Except maybe the one of you in a Siren outfit) :? :(
