Airbrush primer recommendations

PostWed Feb 01, 2017 8:06 pm

After a hiatus I am coming back to mini-wargaming and am taking the plunge into airbrushing this time. I am looking for a high quality primer that is ideally ready for airbrush use with needing to be thinned, etc. Thanks!

+1 I use Vallejo. Ak primer is great too, for example.

I use Vallejo primer if it's going through the airbrush, but normally I don't airbrush primer on at all - I still use a rattlecan mostly

Vallejo primer. Always. You don't even need to thin it or do anything to it in your airbrush. You can shoot it straight. If you are getting a lot of tip dry, you might want to use some airbrush thinner, but... I shoot it straight from the bottle and never have any problems.

Depends. Plastics and pewter Vallejo primer.
You going to be painting hawk resign? Probably want something laquer based like tamiya primer.
The water based stuff doesnt like to stick to the vinly like resign that hawk uses.

I never liked the Vallejo primer, it seemed oddly prone to tearing when I removed masking. Instead I prefer Badger's Stynylrez primer.
