The more I look at your UCM ships the more I like them. They look really cool, I struggled with the scheme it just wasn't my taste.

Wow there are some stunning entries in here - well done to everyone who's posted :D

While I don't rate my chances (I'm no pro painter haha) figured I should at least post a mini-diorama! So without further ado here is a quick knife-fight range skirmish between my favourite Shaltari and UCM!

Although they dont come out that well on my awesome (not) camera, I'm really happy with the BTLs on the Saratogas; I went for a cycling energy look and I think I got close to what I wanted!

Thanks for looking!

EDIT: ok wow posting really ate some of the quality - you can see much better versions if you click on each image

EDIT 2: Urgh I just realised I've nudged almost all of the base indicators during positioning... oh well :D Pretty sure Shalrtari battleships were meant to go in atmosphere anyway!

So sneaking in at the deadline since I honestly forgot about submitting this for awhile...

Some of my Scoruge from Dropfleet. Here you can see both my stock corvettes in action over a desert planet while below my kitbash corvettes and Wyvern pose in my leather chair photo booth!

@UnseenHand - I really like your Shaltari! What colors did you use?
I love my job (well, I love having a job), but a bad day of gaming beats a good day of work every time!

Thanks man! Still feel like I have a long way to go to just be happy with them myself never mind painting for anyone else haha. Looking at some of the entries on here I really need to invest in an airbrush I think!

The Shaltari scheme is kinda long but surprisingly easy do if you don't go nuts on the dots:

a) Start with a black base (I use Chaos Black personally but I'm sure any black primer would do).
b) Then cover the whole thing with a decent coat of Intermediate Blue (Vallejo Model Color).
c) After that I go for two washes of Drakenhof Nightshade (Citadel Shade); one all over and one just in specific places I feel like shadows would fall.
d) This one is optional but I'll also sparingly add a little Nuln Oil (Citadel Shade) into areas I want a realllly deep shadow on.
e) Then we go for an all over drybrush of Blue Grey Pale (Vallejo Model Color).
f) After that I also do a very sparing drybush of Light Sea Grey (Vallejo Model Color) on a few areas for emphasis/to give depth.

Then it is onto the fins:

a) Base all the fins in Mephiston Red (Citadel Base Colour).
b) Wash them all with Carroburg Crimson (Citadel Shade).
c) Do a final wash of Nuln Oil (Citadel Shade) just on the recesses of the fins up against the ships hull.

A quick note here; I had planned to wet blend the colours on the fins to give it a really nice transition (the colours I used for the glowing fin effect I spotted on a wet blending tutorial for a Kingdom Death Lion God so I cant really take any credit for them) but in the end I realised I already have over 2500pts of (just) Shaltari which would never get finished if I did that  . I think if someone had the time to wet blend them on they could look absolutely stunning.

d) Leaving a reasonable gap of the base red, dry brush up to your line with Hot Orange (Vallejo Game Color).
e) Leaving more gap so both previous colours show, dry brush on Orange Fire (Vallejo Game Color).
f) Now just drybrush the end very lightly with Golden Yellow (Vallejo Game Color).
g) Finally dry brush the very very hard edges/corners with Sunny Skin Tone (Vallejo Model Color).

Now onto the details:

a) The command areas are based in Night Blue (Vallejo Game Color).
b) All over wash of the command area of Drakenhof Nightshade (Citadel Shade), before another just around the edges of the area.
c) Then trace the dots with a careful line of Magic Blue (Vallejo Game Color).
d) After that count a couple of dots in on either side and paint the dots in between those with a line of Electric Blue (Vallejo Game Color).
e) Finally paint the core three or four dots with a line of Glacier Blue (Vallejo Game Color).

Quick note here: I'd recommend just a little flow improver/retarder added to the paint here to make painting those lines over/in between the dots easier.

The dots are also these colours, usually radiating from a dark point (the edge of the hull) to a light point near the centre of the ship).

I then did the metallics:

a) Cover the metalic areas in Brass Scorpion (Citadel Layer) - I'm pretty sure something like Vallejos Brassy Brass (Game Color) would also do great here.
b) Then a nuln Oil (Citadel wash) over the metallics, before a second wash just against the edges connected to the hull.
c) Finally I washed all the metalics with Agrax Earthsade Gloss (Citadel Gloss wash) to give them a slightly shiny look. If you don't like that then just use the standard Agrax wash (or whack on a layer of Vallejos Dull Matt Varnish to tone it down/give a layer of protection).

So finally - colours used by category:

Chaos Black (Citadel Primer)

Mephiston Red (Citadel Base Colour) << Heavy Red (Vallejo Extra Opaque) could work here too.

Brass Scorpion (Citadel Layer) << Brassy Brass (Vallejo Game Color) could work here too.

Intermediate Blue (Vallejo Model Color)
Blue Grey Pale (Vallejo Model Color
Light Sea Grey (Vallejo Model Color)
Sunny Skin Tone (Vallejo Model Color)

Drakenhof Nightshade (Citadel Shade)
Nuln Oil (Citadel Shade)
Carroburg Crimson (Citadel Shade)

Agrax Earthsade Gloss (Citadel Gloss wash)

Hot Orange (Vallejo Game Color)
Orange Fire (Vallejo Game Color)
Golden Yellow (Vallejo Game Color)
Night Blue (Vallejo Game Color)
Magic Blue (Vallejo Game Color)
Electric Blue (Vallejo Game Color)
Glacier Blue (Vallejo Game Color)

Hope that helps!
