Veteran's Day 2015

PostWed Nov 11, 2015 8:43 pm

I'd like to take a moment today to give thanks to our veterans on this day, but also to consider how lucky we are as gamers. What we do in play they have done for real. Some of us play sci-fi or fantasy games, while others play historical based ones. Battles like those in WW2 or Cold War era games actually happened.

We gamers are lucky in that if we have a bad day we pack up and head home to our warm comfy beds. If a veteran had a bad day then they at least were affected in a way that could lead to PTSD. Other times severe even life threatening injuries were suffered. Many who returned home never truly came back, their minds remained on a battlefield both were they served and in their own mind.

We gamers will grumble about bad dice rolls and plans not working out but we get over it; tragically some affected veterans do not. However that's not to say all who return and war's end come back in such a state. Many reintegrate into society once again, but they have seen things with their own eyes what we gamers are lucky to only imagine.

Thank you all for your service.
