universe question. Scourge worlds

PostWed Oct 28, 2015 8:53 pm

Hi I am not writting a story, just comment a thought.

If this forum is not the place to do that, please admin remove the entry.

But is there future plans to move on in the reconquista. From fighting in UCM worlds against scourge to attack scourge homeplanets with Giger-like structures or something ?

Like another expansion scenery box with really wierd buildings and ooze moving streets... biomechanical stuff...

Ooh I like that idea. There is nothing stoping you creating some terrain in that style, and coming up with your own narrative. :)

It's not out right stated, but I think that its heavily implied the scourge are nomadic. They don't stick around on the conquered planets once they've used them up. From the source books, it also looks like they were already planning on abandoning the core worlds when the UCM began its reconquest. They don't just use up resources, they also have to be aware of using up their host bodies. The scourge haven't had much luck cloning humans (so the book says), so they're probably looking for either the UCM or a new species entirely to move to.

Its ironic, but the scourge might have been simply left if the UCM had waited a few more years.

I think it is the hosts that are important. If you just want to suck out the resources I think the Scourge have the tech to do it well under 200 years. But unused cities are overgrown - not strapped for any metals and resources they could have. Also, if the Scourge would have destroyed the worlds more then UCM would have a different type of campaigns. Also the resistance are alive and kicking - it's hard to do that if the main occupier keeps using up resources.

The background does seem to suggest that the Scourge travel system to system and consume resources; then move on . . . prompted more by the decay of their hosts and the need to secure new ones. Even so; they must have started somewhere right? Maybe a push by the UCM after the reconquest to find their very original worlds and exterminate them utterly . . . could be an interesting prospect.

I've started thinking that there might be a Scourge home world/world's.

The scourge are a nomadic race of space locust.

They travel t to planet and consume th e populations before ,icing on to the next planet before their hosts die.

However this isn't feasible long term. Even if we assume multiple swarms in the galaxy. Eventually each swarm will start a fight it can't win or just mot find any useful hosts and die out.

However what if they were more similar to locusts. They have a planet/empire in which they live, possible with some subservent species that they control. However they breed too quickly for their planets to support, so every couple of centuries /mellenia their population gets too big for their planets to support, so they build their fleets (or they have always been building them knowing this time will come) and the majority of the species sets out to find new breeding grounds. It could be a quirk of genetics that means these nomadic fleets are forced to move in quickly, they can't find hosts that sustain them for long, or some form of parthenogenesis meaning they are breeding at a faster rate.

Maybe these particular scourge were running from something. Maybe they were being hunted and looked for a place to make a "last stand" of sorts?

There are some implications in the fluff that there are more powerful forces at work beyond what we've seen so far. We don't know where the Scourge came from or where the white sphere came from (and how it knew of the impending invasion of Earth). Maybe more will be revealed when we get the new book?

As far as invading worlds warped by the Scourge there are some really great images in reconquest phase one of human cities with strange, semi-organic spires and tendrils attached to the buildings. Would love to see some official terrain pieces with this kind of theme.
