Which of these two 1500-lists?

PostSat Aug 19, 2017 8:28 am

Hi guys,

I'm trying to come up with a list for a tournament. The missions played will be Targets of Opportunity, Ground Control, and Take and Extract.

Really good choice of missions, I think, as there are two missions where you need to find objectives with infantry, two missions where you need to hold ground, and two missions where destroying buildings can be very helpful. So there really isn't much of a chance to skew your list towards one aspect only.

I have come up with these two lists so far and need your advice on which you think is better or how they could be tweaked:

List A
Clash: 1494/1500 points
Standard Army
  • Standard Roster [1494/1500 pts]
    • Field Command [272 pts]
      • Hazard Suit Team: 2x Hazard Suit, Raven A [104 pts]
      • Kodiak: Kodiak(Lieutenant) [168 pts]
    • Armored Formation [221 pts]
      • Katana Squad: 3x Katana [111 pts]
      • Eagle: Eagle [110 pts]
    • Legionnaire Corps [245 pts]
      • Legionnaires: 2x Legionnaires, Raven A [80 pts]
      • Ferrum: Ferrum [165 pts]
    • Legionnaire Corps [246 pts]
      • Legionnaires: 2x Legionnaires, Raven A [80 pts]
      • Rapier Squad: 3x Rapier, Condor [166 pts]
    • Expeditionary Group [320 pts]
      • Praetorians: 2x Praetorians, Raven A [124 pts]
      • Wolverine Squad: 4x Wolverine A [72 pts]
      • Praetorians: 2x Praetorians, Raven A [124 pts]
    • Special Ordnance [190 pts]
      • Scimitar Squad: 2x Scimitar [100 pts]
      • Longbow Squad: 2x Longbow, 2x Raven B(+Missile Pods) [90 pts]

List B
Clash: 1491/1500 points
Standard Army
  • Standard Roster [1491/1500 pts]
    • Field Command [416 pts]
      • Phoenix: Phoenix(Lieutenant) [250 pts]
      • Rapier Squad: 3x Rapier, Condor [166 pts]
    • Armored Formation [221 pts]
      • Katana Squad: 3x Katana [111 pts]
      • Eagle: Eagle [110 pts]
    • Legionnaire Corps [209 pts]
      • Legionnaires: 3x Legionnaires, Condor, 2x Bear [141 pts]
      • ^ Sharing ^ Flak Team: 2x Legionnaire Flak Team [68 pts]
    • Legionnaire Corps [245 pts]
      • Legionnaires: 2x Legionnaires, Raven A [80 pts]
      • Ferrum: Ferrum [165 pts]
    • Expeditionary Group [300 pts]
      • Wolverine Squad: 4x Wolverine A [72 pts]
      • Praetorians: 2x Praetorians, Raven A [124 pts]
      • Hazard Suit Team: 2x Hazard Suit, Raven A [104 pts]
    • Special Ordnance [100 pts]
      • Scimitar Squad: 2x Scimitar [100 pts]

So what do you think?

List A gives you more Exotics, which I think is very necessary, especially if you expect to get into CQB, but is a bit awkward in the HQ BG as you don't have a Scout choice to maneuver and then spot for your Kodiak; however, there's no way to get a Scout squad in there. It also has Longbows, which I think are very, very good.

List B has the Phoenix, which I personally prefer, but I've been using a Kodiak lately in alpha and beta testing of Second Edition, so I'm getting a bit more experience with it. It's very good for demo work, as are the Longbows, and sniping key enemy Unuts, with the added fun of possibly getting more than one kill with one shot with good template placement or a favorable scatter.. List B also has the Flak Team, which I think are very good, too, and while you do get stuck with the Condor and two Bears, which aren't ideal for objective searching, they can be quite useful if you know how to use them.

I think they're both good, but A gives you a bit more, I think...

List A - The only draw back is if you lose the Ferrum, you lose all your scouting for IDF weapons.

Have Wolverines somehow stopped being scouts, since both of you said I'd have no scouts in that list?

Thanks for the advice! Any ideas on how to improve List A some more?

I didn't say you didn't have a Scout choice in List A -- I said you don't have a Scout choice in your HQ battlegroup in List A. And you don't have a way to get one in there, because then you won't have a place to put your Exotics that are in your Expeditionary Group.

Not having Scouts in the same BG as the Kodiak just means that you'll have to make sure your Scouts have eyes on what the boss wants to zap from orbit. It's not impossible, just a drawback.

As I said, I think both lists are good, but List A gives you a bit more, even if that "bit more" is just some extra teeth in CQB, and the Longbows...

Oh, right. I actually think I understood that the first time I read your post, but when I had read Mike's and reread yours, I had forgotten. :D

Anyway, I think you are right and A is the one I will be going with.

I'm not 100% convinced UCM can win by going into CQB, but I am willing to give it a try nonetheless. Running away all the time is somewhat boring. :D

Now if only my opponent won't notice them either, I may get a good shot in now and then.
