i fail to see how 1 5+ attack means anything. unless you had a dozen of them in one spot it amounts to a whole lot of useless. it would be like 1 Glass trying to take down a Strikecarrier. even if it is the only strike craft with an atmospheric weapon it is useless.

It is huge because you can take a lot of pot shots basicly for free over the course of the game. With 12" scan you even do not need to be at the same cluster a lot of the time. The glass sucks because it allows two save rolls and is more expensive while providing nothing else but it shots, on top it is much more vulnerable with only 1 hull and less PD - and it has less scan.

E.g. if you take 18 gates you'll get 6 hits per turn meaning UCM will take 3 hull damage while Scourge even take 4 per turn in Atmo. So statistically you start crippling Strikecarriers in T3 if you move properly to focus fire. As especially against Shaltari every Strikecarrier counts this is a huge deal while the shaltari himself can afford spare gates easily while generating more shots.
