1500pts games?

PostTue Dec 27, 2016 6:03 pm

As 1500pts is designed to be the typical size for DFC games how many of you had actually games of this size? I have the feeling that some of the complaints of broadsides amd particle weapons come from smaller sized 1000pts or less games?

You're not going to see 1500 point games with just 2 starter sets. Kickstarter players can do it, but others will need to wait on battleships and battlecruisers getting widely released.

I didnt kickstart. I ordered 3 starter sets...and thats more than enough for 1500 points.

I tried a lower point battle and it was fine, but 1500 is definitely my preferred playstyle.

I've had several 1500 games now. It's useful to have my Scourge battlecruiser, but equally I've won a 1500 game with PHR using no battlecruisers or battleships; they aren't essential for that size of game.

The game feels more balanced at this size for UCM, Scourge and PHR. Stuff dies quickly, but you have more ships to compensate the extremely bloody nature of this game. It feels a tad cramped on 4'x4', but as long as you spread your clusters out and have lots of them, this draws the ships in different directions and creates space on the battlefield.

It still doesn't feel balanced when playing Shaltari, however. Those aliens need nerfing, and quickly! Void gates are just too good.

For tourneys ive seen 1500 as the "standard".

We play 1500 standard in our group. Its a solid 2-2.5 hours of game play. Played about 6 or 7 games at that point level.

It gives you good options to have variations or a lot of the toys you want to bring. Also its a good level to start bringing Battleships. Anything less and its eating to many points.

Also feel at 1500 it showcases how the faction plays very well. In low point games, many factions feel to much on the same level. That might seem weird, but the more points, you can see the strength and weakness of the factions easier.

1500pt games are much better balanced than smaller ones so far i've found. The fleet building system really comes into its own, as does the combined arms aspect of the game.

On the flipside, it becomes very hard to track everything on the bases as the table gets very cluttered at times, and ships get knocked all over the place if you try fiddling with pegs or the like. The dials aren't too bad though.
