Building Destruction. Viable tactic to open firing Lanes?

PostMon Nov 30, 2015 10:16 am

So I am a new player and don't know ow if this is a tactic used by people but here it goes anyways.

Do people destroy buildings to increase their lines of fire? Mainly for things with a larger range like the Nemesis and such?

Yes, and no.

It's a relatively common tactic to demo buildings for various purposes. However, when doing it for fire lanes one of the problems is that destroyed buildings leave behind a rubble pile that's 1" tall, so most units will be able to hide behind rubble. So when people do demo buildings for fire lanes, it's to shoot at aircraft.

However, people currently don't play with varied terrain, including elevation changes. So I can see a unit on higher ground downing buildings and shooting over that 1" high rubble. Likewise, gunships and fast movers could benefit from the opened up fire lane.

Can a unit travel over the "rubble"? What about articulated units?

Articulated units can definitely fire over rubble.

I forget what rubble counts as and how it affects vehicle movement.

So it would be possible to destroy a building and use it to get a bit higher LoS so that you can cover more area with slower units. Hmmmm ok

Yes. Especially to open firelanes for my trusted Ocelot. But don't forget, it goes both ways. It is also a good tactic to destroy a building that could give cover to a light transport when moving to your table size. Those Eviscerators surely are better shot down while flying... ;)

Destroyed buildings are impassable terrain.

I bagged a Desolator on the weekend because the building it was hiding behind got destroyed.

"Hello, Mr Desolator. I'll start by firing this Phobos squad then I'll move on to my other AA..." Happy days! ;)
