Custom Dropfleet Bases

PostSun Oct 15, 2017 7:54 pm

I've been working on custom bases for Dropfleet Commander for quite a while now. Everything started with the idea of using telescopic antennas to display the height of the ship. That would of course free up space for hitpoint without fiddly pegs... and so on. This is the fourth iteration and i think i'm pretty close to getting it right. The bottoms hide sand cast lead weights so they're quite stable.

I introduced a third base size both for stability and the large number of hitpoints battleships have: 35mm with up to 8HP, 50mm with up to 16HP and 65mm with up to 24HP

Very cool!

What material are the base made in? It looks like plastic, but it also seems to smooth to be 3D-printed (or you have an exceptional machine).

They're milled from polystyrene for the most part. With sharp tools and the right parameter you can get a great surface that way.
